Abbie Chatfield apologises for old video with comments about Charlie Kirk as boyfriend denied USA Visa

Abbie Chatfield has apologised online for a video she posted a year ago, amid speculation that it was the reason why her partner Adam Hyde was recently denied entry into the USA.

The 30-year-old commentator shared the lengthy clip on social media on Tuesday morning and admitted she “regrets” ever making the video, which made light of several US issues, including Luigi Mangione and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Chatfield, who recently filled in on the KIIS breakfast slot, explained that she felt the need to address the old video, which is “being, in my opinion, misunderstood, and exaggerated.”

The outspoken commentator said that she feels like the video has “come back to haunt me”.

In the clip, originally posted a year ago, Chatfield made a joke about Luigi Mangione and all of the love letters he received in prison after the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.

“I thought, this is a funny joke to make about incels, and the redirection of anger and violence of incels and saying, look, this guy did this, look how much pussy he’s getting, right? Making a stupid, it’s a stupid joke,” she said in the apology video.

Chatfield claims that her words got twisted and turned into being directed at US President Donald Trump.

“I was making a vague joke where the punchline was incels and the reaction to Luigi Mangione,” she continued.

“I disagree with Trump’s policy, his views, all of these things, right, but I never said his name in this video, I never said it was about him, I never called for the assassination of him.”

She also addressed comments she made about Charlie Kirk after his assassination.

Chatfield said her comments have been “misrepresented”, but she wanted to apologise for all of it.

“It’s not appropriate to make jokes like this, it’s not appropriate to even joke about the Luigi Mangione thing,” she said.

“It’s not appropriate to joke about incels and their violence, and it’s not appropriate to joke about or suggest that people should follow in the footsteps of Luigi.

“I really, really regret it.”

Chatfield continued that it’s “not OK” to joke about these topics, and that she really is sorry.

“I genuinely have learnt so much in the past year about essentially, the long and short of it, shutting up, right?” she said.

Looking back on what she has posted, including the video after Kirk’s assassination, she said “I should’ve worded a lot of things differently”.

“I just wanted to clarify that, and I wanted to apologise, and I want to apologise as well to anyone who’s like, ‘What the f–k, why did you say that?'” she continued.

“Because I agree, what the f–k, why did I say that?”

Chatfield added to the 10-minute video with a lengthy caption and apologised further.

“An apology and a clarification on some headlines I’ve been seeing about a (very bad) joke I posted over a year ago that I believe is now being exaggerated and words have been put in my mouth,” the caption started.

She wrote she is “truly sorry” for any hurt the video caused and made it clear the ‘joke’ was not a call to action.

“This ‘joke’ was in extremely poor taste, but I want to make it clear that I do not think political violence is ever okay, and as I said when CK was assassinated, it is not good for anyone.” she added.

“I’m genuinely making a huge effort to be more careful with my words, and understand the impact of them, joke or not. I honestly want to apologise to all of you, including and particularly those who disagree with my political stances.”

Chatfield explained that this is something she has wanted to address for a while, and she is taking more time to reflect on her words and jokes.

“That is why I deleted it as soon as I saw how it was being interpreted months after posting, after the media made headlines stripping the joke of context,” she continued.

“Anyway I hope you can forgive me and we can move forward. I really want to work on closing the gap between me and people who disagree with me, also. I’m working on the background on podcast concepts that will be uniting rather than dividing.

“I also want to make it clear Adam hadn’t even seen this video, so any vitriol toward him is unwarranted.

“Thank you for watching and reading.”

The lengthy video from Chatfield came a day after her boyfriend Adam Hyde, who performs under the name Keli Holiday, was denied entry in to the US

The musician is currently overseas on tour but was detained at the Canadian border before being told he wasn’t allowed back into the US.

Hyde did not provide exact reasons why he wasn’t allowed back, with many speculating his online profile has been inspected by border agents and used as a reason to disallow his entry.

The Dancing2 singer felt “gutted” over the show’s cancellation as he addressed disappointed fans on Instagram.

“Hello stunnas, unfortunately I’m not going to make it to tonight’s show at Baby’s All Right in NYC,” Hyde began in statement posted to his Stories.

“I have spent all day detained at the Canadian border and denied entry back into the US despite having the proper visa documentation in place. I’m still trying to get clarity on the situation myself,” he explained.

“I’m honestly gutted… I hate letting people down.”
