Three Killed in Head-on Car–Bus Collision on NH-53 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj


Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed in a head-on collision between a car and a passenger bus on National Highway-53 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday, police said.

The accident occurred near Tangurusahi under Karanjia police limits when a bus travelling from Thakurmunda to Karanjia collided with an oncoming car. The impact was severe, killing all three occupants of the car on the spot.

The bus driver and a few passengers sustained minor injuries. Around 30 to 40 passengers were on board at the time of the accident, sources said.

The identities of the deceased were yet to be established. However, the police suspect that they might belong to Jajpur.

Preliminary information indicates that they were engaged in the construction business, and the car was registered in Jajpur district. Efforts are underway to confirm their identities.

Emergency services rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Karanjia sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared the three car occupants brought dead.

The incident triggered brief tension in the area, which was later brought under control after police intervention.

Police have seized both vehicles and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
