UDUPI: A 54-year-old gram sahayak died after suffering an electric shock while attempting to pluck mangoes from a tree near the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Udupi on Friday morning.
Police said the deceased has been identified as Sadananda, who was working at the DC office.
According to police, the incident occurred around 9.15 am when he climbed a mango tree in the rear compound to pluck fruits using an iron hook. The hook reportedly came into contact with a high-tension power line passing above the tree, resulting in a severe electric shock. He fell onto the tree branches following the impact.
Sadananda was immediately shifted to the Government Hospital at Ajjarkad in Udupi, but succumbed to his injuries at around 10.53 am, police added.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Manipal police station.
