Revanth Reddy Sets 2027 Deadline to Finish for Irrigation Projects

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday set a two-year deadline, till June 2027, for completing all the incomplete irrigation projects on River Krishna in Telangana, and said irrigation officials must set their targets accordingly.
Revanth Reddy, who chaired a review meeting on irrigation issues, also instructed the finance department to ensure there are no funding problems for projects prioritised for early completion. The meeting at Jal Soudha, the irrigation department headquarters, was attended by ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, Planning Board vice-chairman G. Chinna Reddy, and senior officials from irrigation, and finance departments.
He said the S. Jaipal Reddy Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme (PRLIS) up to Uddhandapur should be completed on priority, and the works pending must be completed in 18 months. He also set a June 2026 deadline for the Koilsagar lift irrigation scheme.
Those that should be completed by this year-end are the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme, Jawahar Nettempadu project, and the Rajiv Bhima lift irrigation scheme, the Chief Minister said.
He called on officials to step up efforts to ensure Telangana’s share of Krishna river water, given the fact that 70 per cent of the river’s basin is in the state. “This fact should drive our efforts before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal in getting the state’s rightful share of the river’s water,” he said.
Since Andhra Pradesh was using 90 tmc ft of water from Godavari basin for its Pattiseema project, officials should work towards Telangana getting an equal amount of water from the upper stretches of the river, he added.
