Kim Kardashian called out by animal rights organisation PETA for gifting each of her four kids a puppy for Christmas
A leading US-based animal rights organisation has called out Kim Kardashian for gifting each of her four children their own puppy for Christmas.
Kim revealed in an Instagram story that she gifted her kids, North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, seven, and Psalm, six, a Pomeranian puppy each for Christmas.
Ingrid Newkirk, founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), later spoke about the decision in a strongly worded statement to People.
“Puppies are not plushies and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that,” Newkirk told the publication.
Newkirk proceeded to recommend that Kim “call PETA or a local shelter the next time” they want to add a pet to their family.
She also called out Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian who also gifted a dog to her family this Christmas.
“[They can] try to make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon, or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis,” Newkirk added.

Kim revealed the controversial gifts in an Instagram story, sharing a photo of the four young puppies – two with dark brown fur and two with pale brown hair – sitting on some fluffy pillows.
“Each kid got a puppy,” she captioned the post.
The four puppies join Kim’s two other Pomeranians – Sushi and Saké, whom she adopted in 2017.
In a thread on Reddit, some social media users criticised the reality TV star and business owner’s decision.
“Each got a puppy they are not going to take care of,” one Reddit user wrote.
”Dogs are not toys. They require a ton of work, patience and knowledge,” wrote another.
Khloé also shared photos to her Instagram of a black Labrador retriever puppy that her family got as a Christmas present.
The sisters have not yet responded to the criticism.
