Jay Leno on being a caregiver for wife Mavis amid her dementia battle and why he doesn’t want people’s sympathy

Jay Leno has opened up about being a caregiver for his beloved wife Mavis Leno as her health issues continue.

The American stand-up comedian and late night TV legend, 75, was previously granted conservatorship over his wife as she battles advanced dementia.

In a new interview, the former The Tonight Show host said how much he genuinely likes taking care of his wife, 79, and feels grateful he’s able to do so.

Speaking to People at an event, he said: “I’m not a woe-is-me person. I’m just lucky that I am able to take care of her.”

“It’s not work, because people come up and say they feel so sorry.

“I understand the sympathy, because I know a lot of people are going through it, but it’s okay.”

Her battle with advanced dementia was revealed last year when the TV star filed for conservatorship.

Leno recently opened up on the situation in an interview on In Depth with Graham Bensinger.
