Hare Krishna Foundation to Promote Millet-based Foods



Hyderabad: For strengthening nutritional security and promoting sustainable food systems, the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation (HKMCF) has signed an Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research(IIMR).

The collaboration aims to promote millet based food initiatives through knowledge sharing, recipe development, training and awareness programmes.

The MoU signed in presence of president of Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Prabhuji and director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad, Dr C. Tara Satyavathi.

Speaking on the occasion, Prabhuji said, “Millets are not only deeply rooted in India’s traditional food culture but are also vital for addressing present day challenges of health, sustainability, and food security. This collaboration will help us explore innovative ways to integrate millets into our food programs for the benefit of society at large.”

Dr Satyavathi, stated, “This MoU helps in connecting millet growing farmers to big dedicated kitchens like HKMCF for supply of millets from farms, this is a step towards ensuring millets in every individual’s plate and diet.”

Currently, HKMCF partners with various state government implemented flagship programmes like Indiramma Canteens and Bhojanamitra(Telangana) and provides about 2.5 lakhs meals every single day.
