Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfiel’s cause of death: Stone Roses rocker’s official cause of death revealed after he died at 63


Four weeks ago, it was revealed Stone Roses rocker Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield had died at the age of 63.

Now, the English musician’s official cause of death has been revealed. 

Mounfield died from “respiratory issues” linked to a lung condition, reportedly emphysema, per The Manchester Evening News.

But the outlet reports the Stone Roses and Primal Scream musician died peacefully in his sleep, with his family confirming the news.

His brother Greg Mounfield shared the news of his passing on Facebook.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother,” he wrote at the time, underneath a picture of the rocker and his late wife Imelda.

Imelda sadly died from cancer in 2023.

The Stone Roses, the band that hails from Manchester, also shared a picture of Mounfield playing the guitar and performing, with a touching tribute.

In their post, shared on X, they referred to the late star as a “brother”.

“RIP our wonderful brother Mani. The greatest bass player and friend we could ever have wished for. X”

Fans flocked to comment underneath the post, with one writing: “Legend, Thank you for creating the soundtrack of a generation. RIP Mani <3.”

Another added: “Many of us lost a bit of our youth tonight.”

Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher also shared a post on X after the news of Mounfield’s death broke, calling him his “hero”.

“IN TOTAL SHOCK AND ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED ON HEARING THE NEWS ABOUT MANI MY HERO RIP RKID LG,” he wrote.
